His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism, was warmly welcomed by an all-party parliamentary reception at Parliament House Canberra yesterday.
Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Tibet, Michael Danby, the Federal member for Melbourne Ports, played a key role in the successful organisation of this important event.
Almost two hundred guests attended the reception for the Dalai Lama, to hear the inspirational words and wisdom of his Holiness, including more than sixty Parliamentarians.

The Dalai Lama’s tour of Australia, entitled ‘Embracing Kindness,’ has been an extraordinary achievement, with tens of thousands of Australians turning up to his functions to listen and receive his blessings. The tour of His Holiness began in Perth, and has so far also included Melbourne, parts of regional Victoria, and the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The tour will then progress to Sydney prior to the departure of His Holiness for New Zealand on June 19.
To the many thousands of Buddhists in Australia, the visit by the Dalai Lama has provided them with a rare opportunity to meet with his holiness and renew their faith.
For many thousands of Australians not of the Buddhist faith, the visit has been similarly uplifting- there are few visitors to this or any other country with so clear a message of peace.
