Australia’s Broadband Future

Access to high quality broadband is essential for Australian families and the future of the Australian economy.

However, did you know that more than 100,000 Australians a year have their applications for broadband turned down because of the nation's second class telecommunications infrastructure?

Did you know that Australia's broadband speeds rank just 25th in the world? Did you know that Australia has fallen behind the rest of the world and is currently ranked just 17th in Broadband usage? Broadband is important for the economy.

The Federal Government's own Broadband Advisory Group found that "next generation broadband could produce economic benefits of $12-30 billion per annum to Australia".

It means:

  • A national productivity boost for Australian business;
  • A platform to accelerated information technology innovation;
  • A foundation to grow for Australia's digital content industry; and
  • Significant cost savings for government.

Broadband is important for families. It means:

  • Better and cheaper communications - through Video Calling & internet calls making STD obsolete;
  • Better access to services - through applications like e-education, e-health and e-government; and
  • Better entertainment - through Internet TV, video on demand, and online computer games.

  • Broadband also improves children's research and problem solving skills through rapid feedback that allows students' learning strategies to be more quickly rewarded.
  • Broadband reduces the impact of the tyranny of distance on children's education by bringing the world's best libraries, museums and cultural events into the home.
  • Broadband increases access to education for kids in suburban and regional Australia.

Broadband is important for Small Business

  • Research shows that internet phone calls (VOIP) can save small businesses up to 75% on their phone bills, improving small business owners' bottom line.
  • Broadband reduces the impact of the tyranny of distance on small businesses giving them the chance to connect with the global economy on equal footing.

Keep the fight up and hit hard. That is the only thing that the LCP understand - hard core political determination, and you will terrify them, old friend
