The Hon. Michael Danby, Member for Melbourne Ports has been campaigning for more accountability and scrutiny of Australian taxpayer funds being provided to the Palestinian Authority through programs such as AusAid.  It was announced by the British Government on 20/12/2016 that they will be making “critical changes’ to the way their aid is administered.

After months of fierce competition for the honour of representing Melbourne Ports in the 45th Parliament, it is now beyond any doubt that Labor’s Michael Danby will retain the seat.

With only a few thousand votes left to count, neither the Liberal nor Green party candidates can usurp Labor’s lead. A swing of just 2% to the Liberals will not be enough to topple Mr Danby who has now seen off seven successive challengers.

“Postal and declaration voting continues, only about 6,000 of 11,500 Postal Votes have been counted but on the current trends I will be returned as the Member for Melbourne Ports,” Michael Danby said today of his likely re-election.  There are still 15,000 Postal Votes, Absentee & Declaration votes to be opened.  “At Postal Voting, The Greens are scoring about 14-16% of different batches of postal votes, well below their vote on election day.” Danby said.
