134 Nobel Laureates across all six Nobel disciplines wrote to incoming Chinese President Xi Jinping, urging him to immediately and unconditionally release Liu Xiaobo and his wife Liu Xia. Liu Xia has been under house arrest since shortly after the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced her husband’s selection as the Peace Prize Laureate for 2010. The letter was released by the International Committee for Liu Xiaobo, which is comprised of six Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and 15 non-governmental organizations
Liberals won’t commit to National Disability Insurance Scheme

The Shadow Treasurer, Joe Hockey, confirmed the Liberals do not put people with disability first.
On SKY News Mr Hockey said the Liberals would only commit to a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) when there was a “strong surplus”. He gave no indication of what this meant or how long people with disability would have to wait for a scheme under a Coalition Government, instead he said "under us you will get a full NDIS when we can afford it."

The Government condemns the repeated rocket and mortar attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip and calls on Hamas to cease these immediately.
Australia supports Israel’s right to defend itself against these indiscriminate attacks. Such attacks on Israel’s civilian population are utterly unacceptable.
Danby decries lack of democracy in Port Phillip

The poor voter turn out in the Port Phillip Council elections on Saturday was the result of the community’s reluctance to engage in local government, Federal Member for Melbourne Ports, Michael Danby said today.
“It is a terrible shame that people don’t feel the inclination to become involved and register their vote”, Mr Danby said.
