Glen Eira College enrolments may hit 500 next year with 4 Year 7 classes for the first time in the schools history.
Federal Member for Melbourne Ports, Michael Danby revealed today at the school’s ceremony for the opening of the $2,120,000 Language and learning Centre last Friday. Mr Danby said the Australian Government’s investment in education had delivered modern facilities to secondary school students as well as in 36 primary schools in Melbourne Ports.
Coalition divided on Huawei

Malcolm Turnbull’s announcement that the Coalition would consider allowing Chinese telecom company Huawei to participate in the NBN was at odds with the advice of ASIO and the comments of current and former Coalition MPs, Michael Danby, Chair of Joint Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade (JSCFADT) said today.
“Mr Turnbull clearly hasn’t listened to his colleagues who accept the need to listen to ASIO’s advice,” said Mr Danby.
In March, Shadow Attorney-General George Brandis said “any government would be very slow to act at variance from the advice of the national security agencies” (Australian Financial Review, 28 March 2012).
Danby slams High Court decision to prevent extradition of Charles Zenati

Michael Danby MP today told parliament that he and many members regretted the decision of the High Court not to allow the extraditionof Charles Zentai.
The Federal Government had approved Mr Zenati’s extradition to Hungary in November 2008, but this was overturned by the federal Court in August 2011.
Today’s decision means that Mr Zentai will not be extradited to Hungary to face charges of murdering an 18 year Jewish man in November 1944 while Zentai served in the Hungarian Army.
More affordable rental apartments open in Port Melbourne

Michael Danby today welcomed the opening of 27 new apartments which will provide more affordable rental accommodation in Port Melbourne.
The 22 studio and five one-bedroom apartments are supported under the Gillard Government’s National Rental Affordability Scheme, in partnership with the Victorian Government and the City of Port Phillip Council.
“The Gillard Government understands that housing affordability is a significant issue around the country and Port Melbourne is no exception,” Mr Danby said.
“Through this development, eligible people can rent their home at a discounted rate of at least 20 per cent below market rates while freeing up other rental properties in the area.More Articles...
